Most do not know that R. Gary Pierce got his first formal police training with Barney Fife in Mayberry. The strange stare from Barney resulted in a 90 mph chase through the main drag of Mayberry. But here is the proof. Gary finally left Barney to join the Maryland State Police, where he actually got to carry bullets, and following a long and fruitful career has retired again to become the new Chief of Police in Perryville. Rumor has it that Gary is trying to talk Barney out of retirement, and has promised all the bullets Barney could ever want.
