The Trooper

The Trooper stood at the pearly gate,
his face was worn and old.
He meekly asked the man of fate,
admission to the fold.

"What have you done," St. Peter asked,
"To seek admission here?"
"I was a Trooper down on earth,
for many, many a year."

The gates moved open sharply,
as St. Peter tolled the bell.
"Come in and take a harp" he said,
"You've had enough of Hell!"

Police Officer's Prayer

Dear Lord I thank you for having called me to be a police officer.

That you who gives order to the universe would choose me to keep order; that You who are the supreme law giver would choose me to enforce the law; that You, the Prince of Peace, would choose me to be a peace maker: I consider a singular honor and privilege.

I pray that I will never forget that on the job I am your chosen one.

I pray for courage, honesty, compassion and common ense on every job.

Please let me see your image in both thoseI am called to protect and to apprehend.

Give me the grace to distinquish between the crime and the criminal.

Give me the relentles moral strength to do what is right, the untieing physical strength to do what is necessary, and the ability to think clearly and quickly under pressure.

Please protect me from all physical, emotional and spiritual harm on and off the job.

Strengthen and comfort my family.

Help them to accept and be supportive of the job to which you have called me.

And please protect me as I protect others.
