          TROOPER OF THE YEAR

          TFC COLIN R. SWEITZER

          TFC Sweitzer is twenty-nine years of age and is a native Eastern Shoreman having grown up in Centreville and presently resides in Pittsville, Maryland.  He holds a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Salisbury State University.  He has been a sworn member of the Maryland State Police since December 2001.  He is presently assigned to the Berlin Barrack.

          TFC Sweitzer’s parents, George and Diane Sweitzer have a horse farm in Centreville, Maryland.  Colin’s dad, George, is a retired member of the MSP as well as a member of the Alumni Association.  Colin is also the brother of Doctor Lori Sweitzer, a surgeon in Detroit, Michigan.

           TFC Sweitzer’s ability, personality, leadership skills and overall performance make him, the embodiment of the core values of the Maryland State Police.  These values are Integrity, Fairness and Service.

           

          TFC SWEITZER’S AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS 

          1.      Worcester County Alcohol and Drugs Abuse Council – Law Enforcement Award for excellence in DUI and CDS Enforcement

          2.      2nd Annual TFC Anthony Jones Award of Excellence for DUI Enforcement

          3.       Maryland Impaired Driving Coalition DUI Award for DUI Enforcement

          4.      Eastern Shore Chapter of MADD Award winner for excellence in DUI Enforcement

          5.      Maryland Law Enforcement Officers Incorporated Award of Merit for overall excellence in Law Enforcement

          6.      Graduate of the Advanced Collision Investigation School in Baltimore

          7.      One of five members of the MSP selected to represent the Department at the “Advanced Law Enforcement Studies” held at the University of Maryland

          8.      MSP Eastern Troop’s representative at President Bush’s speech on Homeland Security

          9.      Throughout the entire year, TFC Sweitzer assisted the MSP Training Division in Sykesville, in the capacity of a Coordinator, M.E.B. Instructor and S.F.S.T. Instructor

          10.  Field Training Trooper at Berlin Barrack

          11.  Numerous letters of thanks and appreciation from citizens wishing to express their gratitude to TFC Sweitzer for his service and assistance.

           

           

          In 1962, the Alumni Association selected it's first "Trooper of the Year". Then and now each new Trooper of the Year is chosen from a field of outstanding Troopers that have been recommended by their commanders.

          The MSPAA Trooper of the Year is selected by the Alumni's Trooper of the Year Committee, which is made up of a cross section of retired troopers. The award for the preceding year is always made in May of the following year.
